When we caught up with trainer Tommy Button on Saturday’s Stable Boss RadioTAB show, he was on his way to Rockhampton with horse float in tow to race four horses.
Currently based at the Sunshine Coast and with a satellite stable in Townsville, the four-time Rockhampton Jockey Club Premiership winner revealed the exciting news that he would be moving his training operation to ‘horse heaven’, Fenwick Farm.
“It is big news! I’m really looking forward to it,” Button said.
“I’ve been given a great opportunity.
“It’s horse heaven. It has everything you need to train horses properly all in the one spot.
“I’m sure it’s going to help my horses and help me win more.
“I’m excited to move there in April.”
Button has a talented two-year-old on his hands in Jemeldi. He has big plans for the undefeated son of Winning Rupert.
“He pulled up well after his win at Doomben last start,” Button said.
“He heads to the Skyline in Sydney next week.
“That’s pretty exciting and I’m keen to get him down there to see if he’s got what it takes to match it with the best.”
On March 7, a charity T20 cricket match will be held in Brisbane between City and Country. The City side is predominantly made up of jockeys while Button will captain the country side that includes a number of handy cricketers.
Button, who described himself as an allrounder that wasn’t really good at anything, is looking forward to the match.
“We’ve got a few trainers and owners on our team and I’m sure some of them are pretty keen to get bowling at these cheeky jockeys,” Button laughed.
